Hikarigaoka Park It is the largest metropolitan comprehensive park in Nerima Ward, located where Nerima Ward and Itabashi Ward partly cross.
The park started as a large green space project in 1940 to commemorate the 2600th anniversary of the birth of Japan, and after being used as an airfield during the war and under the control of the U.S. military, it is now maintained as a park adjacent to the Hikarigaoka complex, one of the largest parks in Tokyo.
The vast site is filled with abundant nature, with a lawn park covering an area of about 6 hectares and a forest for relaxation around it, dotted with cherry trees and other large trees such as zelkova and Himalayan cedars.
In spring, visitors can enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms at Hikarigaoka Park, and in other seasons, they can relax and enjoy picnics, naps, and reading books in the shade of the trees, forgetting about the time.
In addition, there are a number of sports facilities and a large bird sanctuary for bird watching, offering a wide variety of enjoyable activities.
In the neighborhood, there is a shopping center “Hikarigaoka IMA” on the south side, where you can do some shopping. A short distance away was the wonderful Toshimaen theme park which has now closed and will be the Universal Studios Theme Park About Harry Potter.
