The Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum commonly known simply as Enpaku was founded to celebrate the completion of Dr. Shoyo Tsubouchi’s translation of the complete works of Shakespeare and is is a unique museum dedicated to the history of Japanese theatre

Located in Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, the museum was established in 1954 to honour the memory of playwright and professor Shoyo Tsubouchi who was the founder of the Faculty of Letters at the university University.

The museum houses a large collection of books, documents, and other materials related to the history of traditional Japanese theatre, including kabuki, noh, and bunraku.

The museum’s extensive collection contains over a million items, including plays, handbills, and photographs related to the history of Japanese theatre, as well as many rare and valuable documents.

In addition to the permanent collection, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions focused on a variety of topics, including traditional Japanese theatre and modern Japanese theatre.

The museum also offers many educational programs, such as lectures, workshops, and performances. These programs are designed to help the public gain a better understanding of the history and culture of traditional and modern Japanese theatre.

The museum is on the grounds of Waseda University is open to the public and admission is free. It is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and Sundays from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
