This artificial lake, officially called Ogouchi Reservoir in Nishitama County, was completed in 1957 and is a water reservoir of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The mountains surrounding the lake’s surface offer magnificent views of cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall.

During the cherry blossom season, approximately 1,000 cherry trees are in full bloom, creating a wonderful balance between the slightly different hues of the mountains and the contrast with the lake.

There are also many viewing spots such as the viewing plaza near the Okutama Lake bus stop and the Omugishiro parking lot. The view from the floating bridge on the lake, commonly known as the drum bridge, is also excellent, so if the weather permits, be sure to cross the bridge and enjoy the view.

The magnificent cherry blossom scenery is a satisfying spot for a family excursion or a drive with a group or couple.

The surrounding area is dotted with scenic spots such as Tamba Canyon and Okutama Hot Springs where you can relax and take your mind off your fatigue.
