The impressive Koganei Park is the largest metropolitan park in Koganei City, covering an area of about 79 hectares. It is a traditional cherry blossom viewing spot and so popular that it has been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan.
It also made our list of the best 19 cherry blossom spots in Tokyo and is a great option for those looking for a bit more space and throw down a picnic blanket for a hanami party local style.
Under the theme of “Flowers and Greenery,” the park is surrounded by wooded areas and lawns, and approximately 1,700 cherry trees have been planted.
The cherry Blossom Garden” on the west side of the park is literally an entire garden of approximately 430 cherry trees. The backdrop of cherry blossoms in the distance, with the entrance to the adjacent “Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum” in the foreground, is also noteworthy.
The park is also full of sledding slopes and fun facilities for children, making it the perfect place for families to relax and play while viewing the cherry blossoms, and the numerous events make it an enjoyable and satisfying park.
The cherry trees lining the banks of the adjacent Tamagawa-josui River have also been designated a Place of Scenic Beauty, and there are many places to enjoy the cherry blossoms in the surrounding area.
