The outstanding Rikugien Graden is said to be one of the two major gardens from the Edo period and is located in Bunkyo Ward.
It is a “Kaiyushiki Tsukuyama Sensui Teien”, a delicate and mild Japanese garden with artificially created mountains and a large pond, created over a period of seven years by digging a pond and building a mountain in a corner of the flat Musashino area.
The garden is planted with approximately 75 cherry trees, but the most popular cherry tree is the weeping cherry tree, which is synonymous with Rikugien, and is planted in the area past the large inner garden gate that leads into the center of the garden.
The 70-year-old cherry tree is about 15 meters tall and 20 meters wide, and has an overwhelming presence even in bright sunlight.
The nighttime cherry blossoms illuminated at night float in the sky like a huge fireworks display made of cherry blossoms, and the view is so splendid that it can only be described as wonderful.
The Old Furukawa Garden is located nearby, so you can compare Japanese and Western gardens.
