Located at the northern foot of the Tama Hills in Takahata, Hino City, this temple is said to be one of the three major Buddhist temples in the Kanto region.
Surrounded by greenery, the temple attracts many visitors not only for worship but also for strolling. The temple enshrines Benzaiten, one of Hino’s seven gods of good fortune.
The deity Fudo Myoo is enshrined at the temple as Fudo the deity of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune in Hino.
On New Year’s visits to the shrine, a New Year’s morning prayer goma (great goma) ceremony is held and a “Yaku-yoke Honohochiwa” is given to worshippers (until Setsubun). Many visitors come to the shrine in conjunction with the Hino Shichifukujin Meguri (Seven Gods of Good Fortune Tour).
From the nearest station, it is about a 5-minute walk from Takahatafudo Station on the Keio Line; from JR Tachikawa Station, transfer to the Tama Monorail and walk 5 minutes from Takahatafudo Station. Temporary parking is available during the New Year period. Public transportation is recommended to avoid congestion.
