While Ueno Park is most famous for its spring cherry blossom festival, it’s no slouch in the winter when the iconic park puts on its winter illumination show.

The Illumination of Ueno Park in Taito-ku, Tokyo, called “Animal Illumination: Lovers’ Forest” is an illumination held every year from winter to spring at Hakamakoshi Hiroba in Ueno Onshi Koen in Taito-ku, Tokyo.

LED lights decorated in the shape of animals illuminate a very cute and vividly gentle world. In Ueno Onshi Park, Benten-do and other areas are also illuminated, so it is nice to take a stroll at night surrounded by gentle lights.

It is also fun to get to know the animals as you approach the park. In winter, animal illumination in the cold and fantastical atmosphere is also nice, but as spring approaches, the surrounding cherry blossom viewing spots will be lit up at night, so you can enjoy the collaboration of the nighttime cherry blossoms and animal illumination.

It is also recommended to compare the different impressions of the animal illuminations depending on the season.

This is a warm illumination that not only attracts children and couples, but also allows adults to return to their childhoods.

For a slightly different way to enjoy the illumination, it might be interesting to visit during the daytime and enjoy the difference between the nighttime and daytime scenes, where you can feel the difference between the quietness and the light.

The festival is scheduled to run from late November to early May. Lighting hours are from 17:00 to 22:00 daily.
