Sumida Park, which is always one of the most popular places for cherry blossom viewing in Tokyo, straddles Sumida and Taito wards along the Sumida River.
Everyone enjoys this historic site, which was opened by the 8th shogun, Yoshimune Tokugawa, so that the people could also enjoy cherry blossom viewing.
The area between Azuma-bashi Bridge and Sakura-bashi Bridge over the Sumida River is lined with cherry trees like an overhead tunnel, with about 335 cherry trees on the left bank (Sumida-ku side) and 670 cherry trees on the right bank (Taito-ku side), totaling 1,000 cherry trees.
The magnificent cherry blossom festivals held on both banks of the river include children’s events to keep the whole family entertained. The cherry blossoms are lit up to create an otherworldly experience, and groups of adults can enjoy the cherry blossoms as if they were in a kind of theme park.
There are many famous places of interest nearby, such as Sensoji Temple in Taito Ward, downtown Mukojima in Sumida Ward, and the Sky Tree.
