Designated in 1876 in Minato Ward, Shiba Park is one of the oldest parks in Japan along with Ueno Park, Asakusa, Fukagawa, and Asukayama parks.
Here you can enjoy cherry blossoms while viewing the iconic Tokyo Tower up close. About 200 cherry trees, including Someiyoshino, Yama-zakura, and Sato-zakura, are planted on the Maruyama Kofun, which is a forward-rear round burial mound designated as a historic site by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and around the foot and Benten-ike area.
Since the park has a long history, it is also attractive for its many large, aged trees such as camphor trees, zelkova trees, and ginkgo trees.
Day and night, the cherry blossoms against the backdrop of Tokyo Tower are attractive and can be enjoyed by families and couples alike.
The lighting up of the trees at night is especially fantastic and makes for a special scene that can only be experienced here. Since Tokyo Tower is located nearby, it may be interesting to view the park from the tower after seeing it from the park.
