Hōon-Ji Temple temple in Sumida, Tokyo was built by Ota Dogan to pray for the protection of Edo Castle when it was built.
When it was first built, it was located near the Hirakawaguchi entrance of Edo Castle, but it was later relocated and finally settled in its present location.
It is said that Ieyasu Tokugawa and Hideyoshi Toyotomi, two of Japan’s great three unifiers visited the temple.
The memorial tower for the Ota Dokan family in the precincts of the temple is designated as a registered cultural property of the ward.
