Kyōji Temple is a Nichiren Shu temple built in 1655 located a short walk from Nippori Station.
Kyōji Temple was attacked by the new government forces in 1866, at the end of the Edo period, for hiding the defeated shogunate forces (Shogitai) in the Ueno War (Battle of Ueno Shogitai).
The marks of the bullets fired at that time still remain on the temple gate.
The Name of the temple – Daikokuzan.
Daikokuten, a deity said to have been created by Nichiren Shonin, is enshrined in the Daikokudo Hall next to the main hall as a guardian deity.
