Located in Jindaiji, Chofu City, this temple of the Tendai sect is adjacent to the south side of Jindai Botanical Park, famous for its rose garden.
The Yakuyaku Genzan Daishi Grand Festival, usually held in March, is widely known throughout Japan as one of the three largest Daruma (Japanese doll) fairs in Japan. The deity enshrined at the temple is Ganzan Jiedaiji.
The deity is believed to be good luck, illness, and evil spirits, and is believed to bring good luck, traffic safety, family safety, and prosperous business.
During the New Year’s visit, a “Jyoshikai” (a ceremony to pray for peace under heaven and national peace) is held at Ganzandaiji-do Hall. About 200,000 worshippers are said to visit the temple.
From the nearest station, take a bus bound for Jindaiji from Chofu Station on the Keio Line, get off at the last stop, and walk for one minute. Or take the bus bound for “Jindaiji” from the south exit of JR Kichijoji Station, and get off at the Jindaiji stop.
Parking is not available, so we recommend using public transportation or a nearby pay parking lot.
