Located on the east side of Shiba Park near Tokyo Tower, Minato-ku, it is one of the seven major head temples of the Jodo sect and is known as the family temple of the Tokugawa family.
The temple is known as the family temple of the Tokugawa family. After passing through the Sanmon (three gates), the entrance to the temple, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the main hall and Tokyo Tower behind it, set against a background of weeping cherry trees.
This view will remain in the hearts of everyone, from children to adults. More than 400 Someiyoshino cherry trees and weeping cherry trees are planted on the grounds, and the contrast with the historic building of Zojoji Temple provides a unique atmosphere of solemnity and splendor.
The Shobutsu-kai (Buddha’s Birthday Celebration) on April 8 is held as the “Hana-Matsuri (Flower Festival),” so it may be the best day to enjoy the cherry blossoms at Zojoji Temple. The surrounding area, with Shiba Park and Tokyo Tower, is ideal for sightseeing and guided tours of Tokyo.
