This is a statue of Ryotsu Kankichi, the main character of the popular manga “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo”.
The Name “Ryosan” from “Kochikame” is familiar to most Japanese people, and thanks to Ryosan, many of them know the names of the Katsushika and Kameari districts in Tokyo.
The statue was created because of his contribution to the area.
The statue at the north exit is in school uniform. The one at the south exit is in a festival costume. And in November 2008, the statue of Ryosan Boy was added in Kameari Yurodo.
This statue is designed to shake hands with Ryosan and has become a popular spot.
