The summer skies over Kanagawa’s stunning Hayama town will light up again in 2023 with the return of the 56th Hayama Kaigan Fireworks Festival. Scheduled for July 25th, the festival promises a vibrant array of fireworks launched near the iconic Yujiro Lighthouse, casting a magical glow over the picturesque Morito Coast.

The Morito Coast is widely regarded as the most extensive and naturally beautiful sandy beach in Hayama. Located approximately 700 meters off the coast, near the historic Yujiro Lighthouse, the festival’s unique seaside location allows spectators to watch the night sky fill with color from the comfort of the warm, sandy beach.

The main highlight of the Hayama Kaigan Fireworks Festival is the fascinating fusion of underwater fireworks launched from boats and aerial fireworks. The combination creates a mesmerizing spectacle of lights, reflection, and color over the ocean’s surface.

The grand finale of the event features an extra-large star mine display and a flurry of angled fireworks, illuminating the Hayama night sky with a breathtaking floral array of lights.

The Backup Plan

While the festival is planned for July 25th, there is a contingency in place for inclement weather. If rain or other adverse weather conditions prevent the fireworks display from happening on the scheduled date, the event will be postponed to the following day, July 26th.

Getting There

The festival’s seaside location is easily accessible by public transportation. Attendees can take the Keikyu Bus from either the JR Yokosuka Line’s Zushi Station (Bus Stop No. 3) or the Keihin Kyuko Line’s Shin-Zushi Station (Bus Stop No. 2).

The bus journey to the Morito Coast takes approximately 20 minutes, after which it’s just a short one-minute walk to the festival location.
