Mark your calendars for the 68th Ebisu Station Bon Odori Festival (also known as the Ebisu Ekimae Bon Odori) happening on July 28 and 29, 2023. Returning after a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, this event will once again illuminate the vicinity of JR Ebisu Station in Tokyo with its vibrant festivities.
Two Days of Fun and Tradition at Ebisu Station
The Ebisu Station Bon Odori Festival is a long-standing community celebration that originated shortly after World War II. Initially started to inspire reconstruction and revitalization of the local community, the festival has since been jointly hosted by neighborhood associations and shopping districts.
The tradition had been temporarily halted due to the pandemic, but the festival is back after four years.
In past years, Friday’s event, being the start of the weekend, would draw large crowds, with office workers joining in straight from work. Before the COVID-19 interruption, approximately 60,000 people participated in the Bon Odori dance over the two-day period. This year, the grand Bon Odori festival is gearing up to recreate that same electric atmosphere.
